Reserve the Lanes with Bowling Invitations

Personalized Bowling BannerAfter selecting this bowling theme for your party, choose a slogan to use in your invitations, and to use in tying in decorations and personalized favors to your super sports theme.  Try one of the following, or brainstorm with the guest of honor to come up with the perfect slogan for your party:

• “Can you ‘Spare’ the afternoon?  We’re celebrating Brad’s birthday!”
• “Tessa’s Bowling Bash!”
• “This party will be right up your Alley…Let’s Strike up some fun for William’s birthday!”

Invitations:

Bowling Tableware Ensemble contains an invite that is perfect for this theme.

Be sure that the invitation notes that guests should come dressed to participate in sporting activities, including wearing socks.  There’s nothing worse than used bowling shoes with no socks!

Bowling Decorations for a Knock-Out Party

Bowling-Stand-InWe’ve gathered everything you’ll need to decorate, and celebrate with flair to “spare” and to guarantee all-star action for everyone!  Decorating for this party can be fairly simple, because typically this party will be held at a bowling alley and the focus will be on bowling.  Try to greet guests with a festive welcome, and create striking tables for eating, and for food and gift display!

Outdoor decorations:

Attach a bouquet of helium filled balloons to a light post or mailbox so there will be no mistaking where the fun will be that day!

Indoor Decorations:

Start your decorating with a Bowling Ensemble. This ensemble contains balloons, streamers, curling ribbon, a bowling set which can double as a centerpiece, molded bowling pin candles, and even a bowling pin piñata to match your theme!

If you are hosting your party at a bowling alley, you won’t need to do too much decorating. We do recommend greeting guests with a personalized bowling banner, printed with your custom wording.

Bowling Pin PinataBalloons can economically transform any room or yard into a festive space in a matter of minutes by using some of the following ideas:

*Tie curling ribbon to helium filled balloons, and group them together. (Odd numbers look best: 3, 5, or 7) Place groupings of balloons around the party site.

*Tie a bunch of helium filled balloons to the guest of honor’s chair, or tie one balloon to the back of each chair.

If your party is at a bowling alley, or if you are eating in a separate room, streamers offer an economical way to splash lots of color around the site of the party.  The streamers can be twisted after they are anchored to a ceiling wall or table for a more dimensional look.  They also look terrific hanging from doorframes or cascading vertically down walls.

Table Decorations & Napkins:

Setting a table with the party ware, including the tablecloth, cups, plates, napkins, and cutlery is the fastest way to create a focal point in a room.  Start by setting your table with all the goodies in our Bowling Ensemble, creating a place setting at the table for each birthday guest.  Setting the table with all the tableware creates a much more dazzling effect.  Add one or a few of the following touches to personalize your table:

Place one 12 X 12 “ linoleum square (select one that looks like hardwood “alley”) under each plate as a placemat.  Add red arrows with a red paint pen if you wish.  They typically cost less than $2.00 per square.

Display your birthday cake in the center of the table…the guests will love the close up view!

Add other personalized items, such as a stadium cup, to each place setting to let the guest of honor know just how special he/she is.  These items will stir fond memories of the “best birthday ever” for many years to come.

Order red personalized napkins and have them imprinted with your party slogan and the design of your choice.  Select a metallic or foil imprint.  The napkins will serve several purposes…great decorating in disguise and a treasured memento for the birthday boy or girl.  Try one of the following ideas to liven up your table:

The napkins can be laid out on a serving table, or can be displayed at each place setting.  Place napkins in the center of each place setting at an angle.

Unfold the napkins, pinch each in the center of the napkin and place the center point in the bottom of each cup from the Bowling Ensemble. This adds a festive touch while the cups are still empty.

Tie napkins with curling ribbon, and place in the center of each plate at an angle.  Add a glow stick to the top of each bundle. The cutlery can also be added before the napkin is tied with ribbon.

Have Fun to Spare with Bowling Party Activities

Bowling Photo OpAlthough this party will typically be held at a bowling alley, and the bowling itself will be the headline activity, a bowling birthday party just wouldn’t be complete without some additional striking activities!

Set the stage for an all-star PBA Tour event complete with dazzling player introductions, pumped up music, and play-by-play commentary. A karaoke machine is the perfect tool for a sports commentator to call the play-by-play! Recruit a sports nut for the job. Give the announcer the guest’s names and some pre-scripted notes.

Recruit a couple of friends to dress up in Bowling Ball Costume and Bowling Pin Costume, and take pictures of the guests goofing around with these larger than life animated props. You’ll treasure the pictures and the ensuing silliness for years to come.  As an alternative, make each guest bowl a few frames dressed in a costume.  Who knows…scores may improve?

Purchase an inexpensive colored T-Shirt for each guest from a discount store (such as Wal-Mart- approximately $3.00-$4.50/top).On the back left corner of each shirt write each guest’s last name using fabric paint or even a permanent marker. On the front of each shirt add a team name that involves the guest of honor’s name or slogan. “Steve’s Strikers,” “George’s Gutter Guys,” “The Alley Cats,” etc. If you are dividing the group into teams, purchase two different colors of bowling shirts.

At the conclusion of bowling, be prepared to hand out some fun awards. Regardless of the age of your guests, they’ll get a kick out of the awards: Best Bowling Pose, Longest Prep Routine, Most Ball Jams, The “Splitster”, “Pick up”Artist, High Score, Thought we were playing Golf (low score), Gutter King, Alley Cat, Striker, etc.  If children are involved, make sure that you have one award for each, and that no feelings will be hurt.  This is the ideal time to hand out Bowling Favor Packs…and everyone will be delighted with their award!

If you are entertaining children, a Bowling Pin Craft Kit is a great activity.  Some young bowlers tire after a game or two, so you may need an additional time filler depending on the length of the party. Assembly of this craft doesn’t require a lot of space or cleanup.

We offer a wonderful Bowling Pin Piñata and we’ve yet to find a child who doesn’t want to take a swing at one at a party.

Hit the Lanes with Bowling Party Food

Bowling Tableware EnsembleSport Ball Cake Pan includes easy-to-follow baking directions, and can be modified to create a terrific bowling ball cake.

Simply frost the entire cake with black frosting after it is completely cool.  We recommend starting with chocolate frosting, and tinting that black.  If you begin with vanilla frosting, it will be bitter by the time you use enough food coloring to turn it black. After the entire cake is frosted, allow it to sit uncovered for approximately one hour. Then, using a clean thumb or a grape, create three finger holes.  If you wish, you can outline the rim of each hole with white piping frosting.  To make the cake a real standout, purchase three 12″ X 12″ linoleum squares that look like hardwood flooring from a home improvement store (they are very inexpensive).  The tiles can be used as a “hardwood lane” cake board.  Use a red paint pen or Sharpie marker to create the foul line, arrows, and pin placements.  Purchase one individual tile for each party guest, and you’ll have an awesome “placemat” for each place setting.

If you are serving more people than can be accommodated by one boxed mix, which is what this pan calls for, we recommend that you simply bake extra cupcakes, or an extra rectangular cake.  All can be frosted in matching frosting, and cut and served behind the scenes.

Food:

If you are at a bowling alley, you’ll typically only have to provide the cake and ice cream and will be able to purchase food from the concession stand or from a pre-set menu.  If you aren’t at a bowling alley, we suggest serving a meal filled with typical bowling alley concession stand fare – hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, pizza, chips, and popcorn.

As the excitement is so high at children’s birthday parties, most children under the age of 10 will eat very little, and the waste can be disheartening.  If you are entertaining a younger crowd, schedule your party during a time when parents will not expect that their children will eat a meal…and serve only cake, ice cream, and a few other munchies such as popcorn, cheese balls, grapes, or pretzels.

Serve your bowling party food on a Bowling Tableware Ensemble!
