Try Elfing This Holiday Season

Wendys TipZShep and I have been working together on ShindigZ since 1990, the same year we got married. Through the years we have planned a countless number of special events and parties for friends and family around the world. We turn to ShindigZ to help us with decorations and favors every time. If we can’t find what we need, we add it to the next catalog. We thought it might be fun to share some of our learning with you. Through our Wendy’s TipZ section online, you can find ideas to make your party planning unique and affordable. I understand the pressure of being a mom – juggling work, home and the busy lives of my children. Let us help you in one area, celebrations. We have solutions for everything from birthdays, to New Years, to school holiday parties and more. It’s our pleasure.

Elfing How-To
Elfing TipStart a new tradition of spreading holiday cheer to your neighbors and friends this year by Elfing. This fun activity involves leaving a special package of goodies at the front door of a few friends’ houses, with instructions for them to do the same. The joy of gift giving becomes contagious and soon everyone you know will be involved in Elfing!

As Christmas approaches, make up 3 or 4 gift bags with special Elfing goodies inside. The list below contains foods that Buddy the Elf ate in the movie Elf.

  • Candy
  • Candy Corn
  • Candy Canes
  • Syrup
  • The Elf DVD
  • Elf costumes (can be purchased at ShindigZ.com)
  • Elfing letter (from below)

Next, print off the following letter and stick a copy in each goodie bag to explain the surprise and to make sure the fun gets spreads to all!

Hi, it’s Buddy the Elf stopping by to say,
“What’s your favorite color?” this holiday.
To bring you a smile “his favorite thing”
And warm Christmas Greetings the season brings.
Amidst all the hustle of this Holiday Season,
Let’s not forget the purpose and reason
To celebrate the birth of a special baby boy
Who brought us peace and everlasting joy.
So take time with your family to relax and have fun,
With Buddy the Elf, the “gynormous” one.
Then sign this and take it and “Elf” someone new
And spread Christmas cheer, it’s easy to do.
    Buddy

After dark, maybe right before bedtime, dress your kids in Elfing attire and sneak out for some crazy, quiet, sneaky fun! Here’s how it works: Put on your elf costume, creep up to your friend’s door, leave the goodie bag with the letter at the step, ring the doorbell, and RUN LIKE CRAZY! Do this to 3 or 4 neighbors in one evening. The idea is for everyone in the neighborhood to get “Elfed” and spread some holiday cheer!

 More of Wendy’s TipZ
#1 – Each year I give my son’s teacher a Gingerbread Man and a Personalized Christmas Banner to place outside the classroom. The kids and teachers all love this special entrance to the room!

#2 – We line our front walk with star luminarias several weeks before Christmas. Now that our kids are older, everyone gets a chance to light them. On Christmas Eve we go out as a family and set our front walk a-glow. It’s a family tradition!

#3 – We love to celebrate New Year’s with the kids – they won’t want to do this for too many more years! Each year we let the kids vote on our party kit. Last year we went with the holographic kit. Can’t wait to see what they choose this year!

Looking for a theme for a sweet sixteen, going for masquerade (not mardi gras) want something more elegant or parisian. Love the mask though any Ideas?

  2. Jodie Says:

    Jeany,

Thanks so much for your post and your interest in ShindigZ. The guest of honor’s outfit really sets the theme of the party, so I would start with the very elegant black mask.
Invitations also help set the tone. These mask invitations are elegant and will set the mood perfectly. After that the decorations are a breeze. See our Masquerade theme. Use our matching diamond style gossamer to accent and transform any room or area – it’s also available with a metallic finish. You may also find our Lighted Wire Arch to be great accent. Here are a couple of items that can really put the finishing touches on these items. Ostrich feathers are perfect. We have many masquerade favors as well including masquerade mint tins. I’m sure your sweet sixteen party will be spectacular! We look forward to helping make that happen!

    Cheryl,

Thanks so much for your post and your interest in ShindigZ. Motown has many directions you can pursue for decorations. You would start with a city skyline. A couple options can be found here – http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?caid=940247 or http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?caid=822250 . We have many musical items that will accent your Motown theme. The guitar pedestal and Keyboard walkway. Great for any entrance –

http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?caid=821755 . Floating music notes can help you feel the music that I’m sure you will be playing. A little helium and clear monofilament line lets the music carry you away.

I’m using black, white and silver as my color palette. any suggestions would be appreciated.

  16. Jodie Says:

    Dear Michelle,
Thanks so much for your post and your interest in ShindigZ. With a semi-outdoor environment I think our poly vinyl would be a good idea. Poly vinyl is easy to work with, comes in large rolls, and would cover the walls with ease. Hi! I’m having a Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus party for the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS CONCERT. The age group will be five and six year olds.

I’ve already gotten a bunch of guitars and microphones for them to rock out. Already got the HM plates, cups and napkins.

Now, I need to find some decorating ideas to rock out or livingroom. We can move out all the furniture if we need to.

    Thank you!
    Michelle Howard

PS: I loved the stage idea with the stars and entrance, but would that be good for around 20 girls or a fight waiting to happen??

  20. Jodie Says:

    Michelle,
Thanks so much for your post and your interest in ShindigZ. We have everything you need to transform your living room into a rock star stage! Our diva stage would make a great focal point. You could set the stage performances up similar to karaoke and have the girls rotate in and out for each new song, giving them each equal time to rock out as the star – http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?pgp=ZB1003 . 21. Lorraine Says:

I purchased the book on decorating with gossamer and saw a picture of a chair that had been covered. Can you give some directions on how to do that and what materials you used?
    Thank you!
    Lorraine

  22. Jodie Says:

    Lorraine,
Thanks so much for your post and your interest in ShindigZ. I hope you’ve found our “How To Decorate With Gossamer” book useful. There is so much you can do with gossamer! We have found the best way to decorate chairs is with gossamer and tape. Here’s how we do it:
    1. Choose a primary color and purchase the 60” gossamer rolls
    2. Decide on a complimentary accent color and purchase 4” gossamer streamer rolls or tulle or just about anything that will wrap around the chair back
    3. Take the 60” gossamer and fold in half so it is now 30”
    4. Take the 30” piece and fold/drape over the chair back so that it is level with the floor
    • TIP – once you have one piece cut to length use that for your pattern
    5. Use your accent material and wrap around the chair back and tie in a bow on the back
    6. For extra coverage on the chair you can again take the 60” folded in half to 30” and wrap around the bottom part of the chair to cover the legs.
    • TIP – apply a strip of masking tape around the edge of the seat of each metal chair, then use double sided sticky tape to attach the gossamer to the masking tape. This allows for quick and easy clean up.

You can find our gossamer and gossamer streamers here –
http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?cat=15021 . You can find our tulle here – http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?caid=943562 . Please contact us with any questions at 1-800-314-8736 or csr@shindigz.com.

I have been having a hard time trying to find out what type of material gossamer is. Is it real thin and see through? Would I bee able to use it as a tablecloth cover for one table? Is there anyway I am able to get a small sample to see what it feels like and if it would be a good idea to use?

    • Jodie Says:

      Anthony,

Thanks so much for your post and your interest in ShindigZ. Gossamer is a great fabric! It is a light and airy nonwoven decorating material. Yes, it is sheer so you can see through it. You can control the color density by adding layers or how much you gather it. It is similar in texture to a dryer sheet. Dark colored gossamer is not colorfast. You can view all of our gossamer here – http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?cat=15021 . I also highly recommend our “How To Decorate With Gossamer” book. Our exclusive how-to book gives you complete instructions on how to decorate rooms, tables, ceilings, and much more – http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?caid=888545 . Check out our “Using Gossamer With Flare” video too – http://www.youtube.com/user/ShindigZParty
We will be happy to send swatch samples to you. Swatch samples of gossamer are available free of charge. To place a sample order you will need to contact one of our Party Planners at 1-800-314-8794. We look forward to hearing from you!

    Hi,

We have an upcoming 20 year Company Anniversary and would like to have about 200 guests. We will be holding this party at our Warehouse using both indoors and outdoors. Could you help in giving some ideas? The last “End of Year” Party we had we only had 50 guests and we had a Band/DJ and had a dance group perform. We would like this to be different and would like to incorporate Karaoke singing into the evening. Could you help please?

I am planning a party for my husbands new construction business. I called it a celebration of the first half of the first year. I’m having trouble coming up with some kind of favor or decoration idea to fit along with that. We ahve also sold our first millions dollars worth of work so that might be something else to add. Any ideas?

I am helping my mother with the planning my Grandma and Grandpa’s 60th Anniversary party on Oct. 14th. Were having it in a local sports bar/ restaurants private room. Nothing fancy… My Grandma asked my mom to keep it small. My Grandpa went blind in just the past few years so grandma thought it would be best if we kept it to only their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as their sister’s and a just two or three of their closest friends. Total of about 30 max!! I feel like we have to do something to make it SPECIAL somehow. We have had no plan for decorations…. other then my mom asked me to put together a few picture boards.
    Idea’s please!!!
