Memorable Winter Parties

Many major hotels have an afternoon tea. High tea is typically served at 5pm and has a lovely assortment of finger sandwiches and a box full of tea selections. It can be quite pricey and quite formal, but incredibly fun. Little girls sometimes have tea parties with stuffed animals.  I say, have your own.

Some days, an adult tea party is just what the doctor ordered. You can make a most memorable birthday party with all your female friends and do something really special. Dust off your fanciest hat, drag out your white gloves, dress up like Donna Reed and give yourself permission to use your grandmother’s china tea set. Set up your table with old fashioned table cloths and doilies.  If you want something easier for cleanup, Shindigz has some lovely silver plastic cutlery you could pair with silver banded plates that would create an elegant table for your guests.   Add some insulated hot cups and your clean up is done!

This is the perfect opportunity to clear all the teas you have hidden in your cupboard and organize them in a pretty box. Try an old cigar box, decorate a shoe box, or some other creative way of displaying them.

Traditional finger sandwiches are usually displayed on a 3 tier serving platter. We need to make a lovely assortment with some new flavors and some old standards. The most classic sandwich is also super simple, the cucumber sandwich. Then try a smoked salmon and cream cheese on pumpernickel. If you’re drinking a strong flavor tea, you might want a subtle sandwich to balance. Or maybe your tea is light and therefore you pair it with a hearty sandwich of roast beef, caramelized onions and horseradish sauce on rye. Finish the meal with a fabulous array of petit fours, cookies, and rugelach (the perfect bite sized cake). Are you getting excited yet?

Whether you do a classic high tea with all the antique frills, or a simple and whimsical tea party, your guests will have a wonderful time sipping with their pinkies up and giggling. So bring out the little girl inside and play dress up!

Invite Sweet Guests for Tea Party Treats

Tea & Coffee Personalized BannerAfter selecting this theme for your party, choose a slogan to use in your invitations and for tying in decorations and personalized favors for your precious Tea Party theme. Find the perfect slogan for your party by trying one of the following, or by thinking of one that suits your little lady.
• “Kindly join us for a tea party in honor of Katherine’s 5th birthday.”
• “Tea Time with Jocelyn”
• “Join us for tea, in your dress up finery…as we celebrate Julia turning 3!”

Invitations:

Choose one of the following invitations to let your young guests know what a splendid time they will have at the party:
• The Tea Party Tableware Ensemble contains an invite that is perfect for this theme. Address the invitations formally with full names. (Miss Mary Katherine O’Malley)
• As an alternative, a unique personalized star shower invitation can be imprinted with your personalized slogan and details of the party…you name it, and we’ll print it for you! Consider attaching the white gloves to the invitation with curling ribbon. The invite could say, “Please give us a “hand” as we celebrate Ainsley’s birthday at a special Tea Party! (Please wear your gloves for some pinky raising fun!)”
• Little girls love to dress up! In your invitation, request that each guest come to the party dressed for high tea. Be specific in your request. For example, you could ask that each child wear a hat and gloves, and party dress, or that each child come dressed in only pink! Also, you could request that each child bring her favorite doll or teddy bear to introduce to society. For many young children, there is comfort in bringing along an old friend.

Decorate for a Lovely Tea Party

Princess-Castle-Tea-Party-DecorationThis party is sure to be a big hit with girls ages 3-7. We offer a dazzling array of elegant decorations to set just the right tone for this theme and to guarantee a happily-ever-after ending for everyone!

Outdoor decorations:
• “Once Upon a Time” some precious little girls entered an elegant Princess Castle for a high-society tea! This decoration makes an absolutely wonderful photo backdrop and can easily be moved indoors for hours of imaginative play!
• Attach a bouquet of helium-filled balloons to a light post or mailbox so there will be no mistaking where the fun will be that day!

Indoor Decorations:
• Start your decorating with a Tea Party Tableware Ensemble. This kit contains balloons, streamers, curling ribbon, confetti, centerpieces, banners, and even a Tea Pot Pinata to match your theme.
• How can a girl ever be sure that she looks just right for the fanciest tea party ever without a giant Dress Up Mirror? Primping and posing go hand in hand, and this 5’ must-have decoration provides a perfect photo spot for a dress up tea party!
• A Coloring Throne is the perfect spot for the birthday hostess to sit as she opens her gifts and thanks all her fancy friends for joining her on her special day.
• Tie bows with sparkle netting across the top of each chair back. The bows can be cut to any length and look lovely with tails trailing on the floor. Make bows to hang anywhere and everywhere…chairs, doorways, gift packages or table-ends. The bows hold their shape beautifully at a fraction of the cost of wired ribbon.
• Balloons can economically transform any room into a festive space in a matter of minutes by using some of the following ideas:
-Tie a bunch of helium-filled balloons to the birthday child’s chair or tie one balloon to the back of each chair around the birthday table.
-If you choose not to use helium, tie balloons to varying lengths of curling ribbon and hang from the ceiling or from a light fixture over the party table.
• Streamers offer an economical way to splash lots of color around the site of the party. Create a fun and colorful effect by draping streamers from the center of the ceiling to the walls on each side of the room. The streamers can be twisted after they are anchored to a ceiling wall or table for a more dimensional look. Two different colored streamers can be placed back to back and twisted for a unique look. They also look terrific hanging from doorframes or cascading vertically down walls.

Table Decorations & Napkins:
• Setting a table with the party ware, including the tablecloth, cups, plates, napkins, and cutlery is the fastest way to create a focal point in a room. Start by setting your table with all the goodies in our Tea Party Ensemble, creating a placesetting at the table for each birthday guest. Setting the table with all the tableware creates a much grander effect. Add a few of the following touches to personalize your table:
• Create a centerpiece using a bunch of helium filled balloons tied with curling ribbon. Attach them to a Foil Balloon Weight.
• Display your birthday cake in the center of the table…the girls will love the close up view!
• For an original touch on your party table, use a gold paint pen to draw random dots or squiggles on the handles of pink plastic cutlery. Tie the plastic flatware together with curling ribbon — big impact at a little price!
• Attach two plates together with a glue stick for a “formal” look. Use a 9” Metallic Gold Plate on the bottom and a 7” Dress Up plate on top.
• Scatter Shimmer Stars on the tabletop. The leftover shimmer stars can be used to line a walkway, hang on walls, or used as place cards. If you are making place cards, Emily Post will insist that you use full formal names!
• Order pink napkins and have them imprinted with your party slogan and the design of your choice. Select a metallic or foil imprint. The napkins will serve several purposes — great decorating in disguise and a treasured memento for the birthday girl’s scrapbook. Try one of the following ideas to liven up your table:
• Unfold the napkins, pinch each in the center of the napkin and place the center point in the bottom of each cup from the Tea Party Ensemble. This adds a decorative touch while the cups are still empty.
• Tie napkins with pink gossamer streamers, and place in the center of each plate at an angle. The cutlery can also be added before the napkin is tied with ribbon.
• Twist a glitter jelly bracelet around the napkin and cutlery bundle or use a crystal ring as a napkin ring.

Precious Treats for a Tea Party

Tea Party Kit-N-KaboodleAll the party guests will live happily-ever-after, after they consume this easy-to-make Dress Up Doll Cake!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
• One packaged cake mix
• One 16 oz. Container of pink ready-made frosting, or Strawberry Cool Whip
• One board for displaying the cake
• One 9 or 10” diameter oven proof deep bowl
• Deep pink piping frosting to decorate the skirt
• Container of gold edible candy balls
• Edible iridescent glitter to sprinkle over the entire cake
• One clean 11” plastic doll (a Barbie™ doll works well)

Prepare and bake cake according to directions on the package. After cake is completely cooled, place inverted cake in the center of the cake board. In the center of the cake, cut out a small opening and place the doll into the cake. She should be covered from the waist down. Frost the entire cake skirt with pink frosting. Next, using a star tip, pipe a top onto the doll. Decorate the skirt with gold balls, pink piped trim, and edible glitter.

As an alternative, make a cake using our flower cake pan and frost it to match the sweet flower on the Tea Party Ensemble plate.

Food:
• Serve dainty finger sandwiches, strawberries dipped in chocolate, mini cutout sugar cookies, pink punch in tea cups, and mini J-ello Jigglers.
• As the excitement is so high at children’s birthday parties, most children under the age of 10 will eat very little and the waste can be disheartening. Schedule your party during a time when parents will not expect that their children will eat a meal and serve only cake, ice cream, and a few other munchies. Serve snacks in heart shaped buckets for a dainty touch on your “tea” table.
